The studying/checking the chemical and physical properties of daily used substance/material is essential because chemical properties helps a substance to change into a new substance and also describe how a substance reacts with other substance and physical properties helps to describe the physical characteristics of a substance.
In chemical change, a new substance is formed and energy is either released or absorbed. Example of chemical changes that occur in everyday life are : 1. Burning of candle is the combination of wax and oxygen which produces heat, light and carbon dioxide. 2. Milk goes sour due to the growth of bacteria named lactobacillus which convert the lactose present in the milk in to lactic acid due to which the taste of milk changes to sour. 3. Toasting of bread is also a chemical change in which bread become new substance due to heat added.
Physical properties include extensive and intensive properties. Mass and volume are extensive properties and color is an intensive property. These properties helps us to see, feel and taste substance. Example of physical changes that occur in everyday life are: 1. When bread is cut in half , its mass and volume changes but the color remain the same. 2. Butter melts on warm toast.
