why the switch is always connected with the live wire

Dear friend,

Because, if no live wire is connected to the switch then its of no use. So, a live wire has to be connected to the switch in order to work. Usually in a switch there are two wires in which one is a live wire. When the switch is ON, it lets the current flows from the live wire to the other wire, otherwise when it is OFF, no current flows.

The switch must be placed in live wire to maintain the body of appliance at zero potential in the switch off position and if the switch is kept in neutral wire, then the body of the appliance to keep the body at infinite potential in the switch on position
