Why the trees that grow in Hilly areas referred to as conifers

Due to extreme snow fall in some hilly areas such as Kashmir, shimla,etc. When the ❄snow ❄ falls on the tree it may decompose the trees.
So, it is shaped like an Cone shape. So, because of the cone shape all the snow falls down
