There is a gland in the body called the thyroid straddling the Adam's apple. The hormone it makes is called thyroxin. This is the material that uses iodine in its construction. Thyroxin is heavily involved in regulation of metabolism. In a situation of not enough dietary iodine, the gland swells to a couple times its normal size, there are lethargy issues that arise, it can look really odd. It is easy enough to reverse with a regular intake of , or ionized salt.

-------here's the answer-------

The Use of iodine salt is advisable because of the content of iodine. There is a gland in our body located near larnyx called as Thyroid. It secretes Thyroxin Hormone , which is important for metabolism of fats, proteins etc. nutrients, which only works under the presence of iodine. So without iodine Thyroxin wouldn't form.

This defeciency also causes a diseases called GOITRE
