Why the value to of g is greater at the poles than at the equator?

The value of 'g' is greater at the poles because the gravitational pull is maximum at the poles and decreases as it comes down toward the equator and we know that value of g is inversly proportional to the radius of earth and also the radius of earth is more at equator than at pole
