Why the ventral surface is lighter green in Dorsiventral leaves?
Answers
Answer:
The upper part of the leaf is made up of palisade mesophyll cells which are tightly packed and have chloroplast in abundance.
The lower part of the leaf has spongy mesophyll cells which are not so tightly packed and have comparetively less chloroplast than palisade cells.
Chloroplast contains a green pigment called chlorophyll, due to which the leaves appear green.
Since the upper part of the leaf has cells that have chlorophyll in abundance, the upper part of the leaf appears darker.

Answer:
Dorsal surface of leaf is greener than its ventral surface because of the presence of mesophyll cells which contains chlorophyll. Due to more amount of chlorophyll on dorsal surface more light energy is trapped hence, more amount of light of green wavelength is reflected. Dorsal surface is shiny because the layer of cuticle is covered for protection & to reduce the rate of transpiration in comparison to ventral surface.
