Why, the walls of a dam are thicker near the bottom than at the top?

because the pressure of water at the walls is more at bottom than at top. so to manage the pressure wall at the bottom is thick

the pressure of the water is greater at the bottom than at the top so the dam has to be thicker at the bottom to be strong enough to withstand the great pressure of the water
