pressure=force/area. so at the base as height of liquid increases => pressure also increases=> to tolerate such huge pressure the wall is made thick at the base as P=F/A => if area is more pressure will be less...

The walls of dams are made thick as well as slant to control the liquids pressure and also to avoid the leakage of water
