Wood without vessels or pores iscalled non-porous wood. The porous wood of angiosperms is technicallycalled as hard wood. The non-porous wood of gymnosperms is technicallycalled as softwood.

The wood of angiosperms is called porous wood because their wood comprise of vessels or pores in them and they are hard.

So these woods are also referred to as hardwood.

Gymnosperms, on the other hand, possess wood that are non-porous, that is, they do not possess vessels or pores in them hence are also known as softwood.
