As we move up the food chain,the concentration of pollutants increases per organism.

So,humans have a lot of pollution inside being on the top of the food chain.

>> We all know that farmers spray fertilisers or other chemical pesticides in the crop field to protect the crops from diseases and pests.These chemicals are either washed down into the water bodies or into the soil.

>> From the soil, these are absorbed by the plants along with water and minerals, and from the water it is taken by aquatic plants and animals. This is one of the ways in which DDTs enter the food Chain.

>> As these chemicals are not degradable, these get accumulated progressively at each trophic level.

>> As I have written above, humans occupy the top level in any food chain, the maximum concentration of these chemicals get accumulated in our bodies. This phenomenon is known as biological magnification.

>> This the reason, why our food grains such as wheat and rice, vegetables and fruits and even meat, contain varying amount of pesticide residues. They cannot always be removed by water or by other means.
