why there are many large cities in Northern plains of india? Give two reasons.

[1] Water Availability : The northern pains have a large number of rivers and streams. The water is extremely essential for livelihood. Rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Indus, Kosi, Chambal, Sutlej etc. are perennial i.e.  they have water throughout the year and are constant sources of freshwater.

[2]  Food Supply : The plains of North India are essentially made of alluvium, the fertile soil brought down by the river. These areas had high productivity and could support large populations with it's agricultural produce.

Northern plains are drained by many rivers like ganga and it's tributaries.

It is rich in minerals like Iron ore and has a steady power supply

Also because of being low lying region, transport network has flourished here.

Hence due t all these reasons, there are many large cities in Northern plains of India
