Along with democracy, the concept of federalism is being adopted by more and more countries. Federalism allows to share power with the local and distinct people of a country and thus maintains the unity of state. It makes democracy effective and stable and rules out the the implications of dictatorship.
Federalism make citizens more active in politics by allowing them to participate in the various levels of government. It allows state or local governments to act as “laboratories” of public policy. It allows for legitimate expression of local preferences and thus decreases the tendencies of separatism.
