Why there are only seven days in a week

We have seven days in a week as it is based on the seven heavenly bodies; the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. This pattern is also followed in french- Lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi, samedi, dimanche.
