● Reasons for large difference in melting and boiling point of oxygen and sulphur are as follows-
⭐ At room temperature, O2 exists as diatomic molecule while S8 at room temperature, exists as polyatomic molecule.
⭐ O2 exists in gaseous state due to which it shows weak Van Der Waal forces between the molecules, thus has low boiling and mrlting point. On the other hand, S8 has packed ringed structure with strong covalent bond between the molecules. Thus sulphur has high melting and boiling point.
