Need for Classification:
Elements are classified in a systematic way to study their properties.
There are 118 elements discovered till date. By classifying the elements, the study of properties of a large number of elements is narrowed down to the study of only a few groups of elements such that elements in the same group have similar properties.
In this manner, the study of a large number of elements is reduced to the study of a few group of elements.
Thus, it becomes very easy to identify the similarities in their properties.
