birth -- 10 November 1750 at Devanahalli
death -- 4 May 1799 at Srirangapatna
buried -- 5 May 1799 at Mausoleum of Tipu Sultan in Srirangapatna
He was also known as the 'Tiger of Mysore' because when he went on hunting with his french friend he came across a tiger. The time when they came across the tiger he was unarmed still he managed to pick up his dragger from the ground and kill the tiger.

He is known as the Tiger of Mysore because when Tipu Sultan tried to kill the animal, his gun did not work and his dagger fell on the ground. The tiger jumped on him and was about to maul him when Tipu picked up his dagger, killed the tiger with it and earned the name of "Tiger of Mysore".
