Why toothpaste is used for brushing teeth?

We use toothpaste to clean our mouth and feel fresh. But, practically toothpaste is used to neutralize the plaques formed in our tooth.

Dental plaques formed over the enamels are acidic in nature and causes tooth decay.

So, toothpaste which is basic in nature can neutralize those plaques and helps in saving our tooth from tooth decay
