This energy generally come from a form of energy known as electromagnetic radiation.

If you don't know- Photons are small packages of energy. Photons are what we really see as light. Electromagnetic radiation consists of photons according to the theory of photoelectric effect.

This theory is known as the photoelectric effect. As the electron moves higher in the energy level it absorbs photons (photons are a package of energy) or say electromagnetic radiation .

When an electron bounces lower or returns to its original energy level it emits electromagnetic radiation.

You can study further by googling a bit about photoelectric effect and electron and there energy levels.

EXTRA : The theory of photoelectric effect was explained by Einstein in one of his 1905 papers.
