Cable screen controls the electric field stress in the cable insulation. It also provides return path for cable neutral and fault current

We connect the cable armor to earth at only one end of the cable because we want toprevent circulating currents in the armor that would occurif the armor were earthed atboth ends.These circulating currents increase the heating of the cable and reduce its effective load current capacity.
