In southern india there is a tradition to address saints as "shri la shri" or "shri shri" it is very common actually. But these are not given at birth, let alone self proclaimed, these are earned by their meritorious deeds and saintly actions, and they are conferred by saints not by followers or government :-) ignoract people wil ofcourse challenge this as they dont really read much or follow much about a saints life but to pick certain instances and justify with their ignorant minds.
the tradition is that just one "Sri" is given to normal names at birth or to people whom we want to address with respect, it can be your at your vocation or a senior by age or experience, so one "Sri" simply simply does not a explain the greatness of a saint who has conquered his mind and has gone beyond the materialistic desires of this world, hence the tradition of using two shri for saints, not even to kings. Contextually if you notice even kings have names like rajadhi raja or maharaja etc to explain their greatness in comparison to other normal rajas, so Shri Shri is something like that but in spiritual context
