Why Vaseline is used in respiration experiment

Vaseline is used so that we can block the stomatal pores and show the experiment that stomata is the site for exchange of gases and is necessary for the process of respiration to take place. As without stomata there would be no exchange of gases and hence there would be no respiration taking place.
