why velocity is called directed speed

Hey mate here is ur ans
velocity is defined as distance travelled by a body in a given direction within a specific time period
speed is defined as the distance travelled in a specific time
so this implies that velocity is speed in a direction
so velocity is directed speed

Velocity is called directed speed because speed and velocity are almost same. The difference of only direction.speed has no direction because it is a scalar quantity but velocity has direction that's why velocity is called directed speed.
