Hey Friend,

Cripps' Mission was one of the main causes which led to the Quit India Movement.

Cripps' Mission -

*With the Japanese Army rapidly advancing towards India, the British had to break the political deadlock between India and British.

*
In 1942, Chruchill announced that Sir Stanford Cripps would go to India to consult with the parties in India.

Constitutional reforms or postulates of the Cripps' Mission -

*India would be given Dominion status.

*A constituent Assembly would be set up to draft a new constitution. It would consist of members of Indian Legislature and nominees of princely states.

*The princely states would be given choice to be free or join the dominion.

*There would be a negotiation between the British government and the constituent Assembly regarding the transfer of powers.

*During Wars, the defense powers would be shifted to the Viceroy along with the responsibility of the country.

Failure of Cripps' Mission -

*It did not propose any immediate transfer of power.

*It did not accept Pakistan specifically.

*It did not grant the right of self determination to Muslims.

*The backward classes opposed it because it did not provide sufficient safeguards for their interests.

*The Congress wanted the entire military power to be shifted to National Government of India.

*Gandhiji opposed the idea of Working Committee.

Hope it helps!

With the Japanese army advancing towards India,it became necessary for the british to break the political deadlock in india. Churchill announced in March 1942 , that sir Stafford Cripps, a member of the war cabinet would go to India for consultation with all parties.

Reason for the failure of cripps mission:-

1) The plan involved partitioning of the country.

2) The cripps mission did not bring work it the promise of the independence in the nearer future.
