it held due to the despotic rule of Louis XIV . there was a large amount of debt on the ruler so the state was forced to increase tax . and population also rise rapidly but agricultural production could not keep pace . so the prize of food rose . so people became angry and started to go against Louis XIV. the other reason is the assembly of three estates in which the demand of third estate was rejected
