Why was greece given the distinction of being called the birth places western civilization?

Because it was the basis for Roman civilization which in turn has shaped the socio-cultural map of Europe for, well, as long as they have been gone, to be fair. Greece is credited with the creation of democracy, extensive works on philosophy, art (which Rome chose to copy) and was essentially the "first successful Western civilization". hope this is helpful for you ✌✌
