Seeing Helen's problems Mr.Gilman, principal of the Cambridge School began to complain that Helen was overworked and stressed. Despite Helen's requests, he reduced the number of her recitations. He had earlier agreed that she could complete her preparations for Radcliffe in two years more. Then he changed his position and insisted that she should remain at his school three years longer. She did not like his idea as she wanted to go to college with her class.
Miss Sullivan also supported Helen in her decision that she would be able to complete her studies in two years. So, Helen's mother withdrew her and her sister Mildred from Cambridge School.
Mr.Merton S.Keith, a tutor from Cambridge, was engaged to teach Helen after she discontinued her studies at the Cambridge School. He taught her algebra, geometry, greek and latin. Miss Sullivan interpreted his instructions. For 8 months he gave her lessons five times a week, in periods of about one hour.
Helen was very happy to study on her own as there was no hurry and no confusion.Mr.Keith made even mathematics interesting for her. He trained her mind to clear logically and to see conclusions calmly and logically. Her dullness did not discourage him at all. She completed it quite well.
:) Hope this Helps !!!
