While storing manuscripts, the historians face many difficulties like

the manuscripts were written by the hands, where there were major differences between the two copies.

There were also many changes occurred at the time of copy them. Because of this, the historians have to read the many versions of the manuscript to understand what actually had written. 

Moreover they were not written on a sheet but on the leaves and with time leaves get decomposed and manuscripts were destroyed.
