Refer the hailstorm is appropriate because the hailstorm destroyed Lencho's fields and his harvest. Comparing it with Sugar would mean that it benefited him but the hailstorm caused no profit to Lencho instead it caused him a lot of loss and all his harvest was destroyed.

Because his field completely filled with Hailstrom and appearing white in colour . that's why lencho compared with salt.
It will not right to compare it with sugar because sugar is a sweet and we will give sweet to other when we happy .
