Why was M hamel behaving differently

As the day was the last day for M.Hamel to teach French in the school.He was feeling so sad about that.because of that only M.Hamel was behaving differently on that last day.

Monsieur Hamel was behaving differently because of the order which had come from Berlin to teach only German in the school of Alsace and Laurraine . And also after his 40 years of faithful service to the school, he would be leaving the school the next day.
