Its purpose was to convince Gandhi ji of his rights about the use of roads near a temple in Travancore by the lower caste Ezhavas and untouchables. The movement first started in the village 'Vaikom' of Travancore with the entry of Hindu temples and the movement of Harijans on public roads.
