because he had saved their lives. with his arrival all the mishappenigs stoped . so thats why sailors hailed it in GODs name

Albatross was considered as a " Christian soul " . This is because , when he came then his arrival removed snow , fog and mist from the atmosphere . South winds also started to blow which was helping the ship to sail over with a steady speed .
