Why was the Bastille Prison hated by all of France?

during the French revolution, peasants and 3rd estate people hated all signs of nobility and clergy. Bastille represents strong presence of aristocracy and nobility. so peasants destroyed it, freed their prisoners and sold it's pieces too remember it's destruction
