The Civil Disobedience Movement was called off in two phases. Firstly it was called off in 1931 when the Congress agreed to participate in Second Round Table Conference in London. As the British refused to give Dominion Status to India and rejected most of the demands of Congress, the Gandhi resumed the Civil Disobedience.
The government now adopted the policy of suppression and repression and the movement was crushed effectively. The leaders were jailed and the picketing was declared illegal and punishable. The movement became ineffective and thus it was officially called off in April 1934.
