Earth's 79% surface is covered with water bodies.

And, when looked from the outer space, the earth looks bluish in colour.

Thus, the Earth is called Blue Planet because it is mostly covered with water.

Earth is called as blue planet. Because more than three- fourth of Earth's surface is filled or covered by water.
So when we see the Earth from space, it appears like a huge blue sphere with small patches of land.
