Land tax was increased at the time of Muhammad bin Tughlaq for the expansion of kingdom.

It was increased in the Doab areas where land was fertile as it lied between the Rivers Ganga and Yamuna.

The miserable point was that the taxes were increased at the time of no monsoon when agriculture merely failed and led to famine and death of several farmers.
