In the short story 'A Shady Plot' by Elsie Brown, Jenkins had requested the narrator, John Hallock, to give him another supernatural story as the readers of his magazine liked to read horror genre of fiction. The narrator was not in a position to contradict Jenkins because his magazine had been the only one to print his ghost stories. He was his source of income and the narrator did not want to lose this opportunity.
