Answer:

The non-cooperation movement withdrawn due to the Chauri-Chaura incident:-

At Chauri- Chaura a village in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh about 3000 peasants were marching to the police station to protest against a police officer who had beaten some volunteers picketing a liquor shop. The police fired at the protesting peasants, this angered the peasants and they burnt the nearby police station killing 22 policemen. Gandhiji was a believer of Ahimsa (non-violence) and he was shocked at this incident.

Along with this there were violent incidents in other parts of the country. This was leading to a non-violent freedom struggle and hence Gandhi withdrew the non- cooperation movement.
