The Revolt or uprising of 1857 was a valiant effort by disgruntled Indian sepoys to overthrow the colonial power from Indian shores, however, it ended in failure. The reasons for the failure of the 1857 Revolt are many and can be grouped into Administrative, Military and Political causes.

Because it was not well planned.
There was no single leader of the revolt.
Every one was doing revolt for making them free from the Britishers.
No one tried to make India free.
Kings were fighting because their state came under Doctrine of lapse or Subsidiary alliance.
Peasants were fighting because they were Torchered by the Britishers
As we say that Rani Lakshmi Bai fought to make India free. But in reality she was fighting for Jhansi not for India and there are many other rulers like that.
So this revolt failed because it was not an all India movement and it became easy for Britishers to crush the movement.
