Why was the Simon Commission greeted with black flags and the slogan Simon Go Back in India

Sir John Simon was a britisher, who was asked by goverment to set up new constitution and changes in India. Simon with is community of 8 member were asked to suggest changes, but there was none of Indian in all 8 member. So, when Simon come to India he was greeted by slogan 'go back simon'.

  1. Lala Lajpat Rai himself led one such procession against Simon Commission. His slogan was “Simon Go back”.
  2. While the procession was peaceful, British Government brutally lathicharged the procession.
  3. Lala Lajpat Rai received severe head injuries and died on November17, 1928.
  4. Stanley Baldwin, Simon Commission, group appointed in November 1927 by the British Conservative government under Stanley Baldwin to report on the working of the Indian constitution established by the Government of India Act of 1919.

The Simon Commission came to India in 1927 to generate a report on how well the 1919 Government of India Act was working.

The Government of India Act established the new Indian constitution and Great Britain appointed British officials to the Simon Commission in order to oversee the effectiveness of the constitution.
