Why was young's experiment made with double-slit and not two monochromatic lasers?

The main motive behind using double slit was that, the interference pattern can be produced on both the sides of the screen and it became easier to study it.

While we cannot use two monochromatic lasers as source as both of them will interfere destructively after interference from slits and hence there will be no pattern observed
