water cannot be used for oil and petrol fire because it contains oxygen which is a supporter of fire or combustion.

Anonymous: No! A huge amount of water can put off oil fire if it is a small one. Generally water is used in case any common fires, so water containing oxygen is not a reason

oil is lighter than water and immiscible, so there are chances that the unburnt oil or petrol forms a layer beneath the oil or petrol. Since water spreads it will spread the oil more and more.
Secondly in case of huge fires, water is instantly turned to steam when water is sprayed through hose over the oil and petrol fire thus, the steam will shower spreading the fire
