Water is odorless because our olfactory receptors are wet with mucus that is mostly water, too. Pure water is a compound of two gasses, Hydrogen and Oxygen. Both of these gases are colourless and odourless in gaseous state.

Water alone is colourless , odourless and tasteless liquid ., but upon standing it takes at traces of carbon dioxide in air and tends towards a sour solution of carbonic acid that is unpleasant - tasting and more inhospitable to life .
