We rely on the environment for many things that many people take for granted. For example, the air you’re breathing, the food you’re eating and the water you’re drinking have all come from nature.
When we pollute nature, we effectively end up poisoning ourselves. For example, plastics and micro-plastic particles in the ocean are becoming a serious environmental problem. These pieces of plastic are ingested by sea creatures, including fish, which are then consumed by us and we effectively take in the same plastic particles. No one really understands just how bad this will be for our health, but it will have consequences.
Similarly when we pollute the air with fumes from our vehicles, we inhale these particles and there is now growing concern that these are leading to increased deaths and a whole range of serious health problems.
To put it simply, when we damage the natural world, we also damage our own prosperity. That is one way of looking at things from our point of view.
Another way of looking at it, is that as far as we are currently aware, the earth is the only planet in our entire universe which is home to complex life. This life is sustained by nature. If we continue to pollute the air, sea, waterways and land, and more importantly if we reach the upper IPCC climate change scenarios and see warming of up to 6C by 2100, vast swathes of life will be lost from our planet. It is for these reasons that the environment needs to be prioritised by global leaders, because our window of opportunity...

Protects our Ecosystem

Our environment is what houses and helps our ecosystem grow and thrive. Without protecting and taking care of our environment we're putting so many lives at danger such as animals, plants and crops, and even our own. All of the ecosystems that make up our environment are deeply connected.
