Very good question dear,
For Harmonic motion we used Sine and cosines function for represent there displacement equations.

Why we use sine and cosine instead of Cot, Sec and Tan ?
harmonic motion is a experimental concept not theoretical concepts.
if you read same concept in a higher level you will get your answer.
but, I will tell you that I observed while performing harmonic experiment.
Let a tuning fork and hit turning fork by a rubber hammer then you get a vibration that vibration is harmonic.
now, try other
place a tuning fork fixed in front of laser light and that laser light reflected by tuning fork and create a point on the wall called reflection point.
take a rubber hammer and hit turning fork. by hitting tunning fork a vibration create on the upper end of the fork. and by laser light you can see vibration of tuning fork .. and these vibration make a continuous/ sin wave and discontinuous/ cosine wave.
so that why we used Sine and cosines function.
