why we boil the leaf in alcohol when we are testing it for starch

While boiling the leaves with alcohol the leaves become colorless.Hence it can show blue black color with iodine solution showing presence of starch

the alcohol will dissolve the chlorophyll and the leaf will lose its green colour..
