Question

Why we cannot separate sugar or salt mixed in water using filtration method?

Answer :

Filtration : The process of separating insoluble solids from liquids using fine pore of the filter.

Sugar or salt, when added to water, both gets distributed uniformly. They form homogeneous mixture.

Now,

If the solution of sugar or salt is filtered than the particles of sugar or salt will easily pass through the filter paper.

So,

Sugar or salt can not be separated by filtration when added to water.

They can be separated by the process of crystallization.

Crystallization : The process in which the pure substance is separated in the solid from from a saturated solution.
