Diwali or dipawali is a festival of lights. it is believed that lord krishna kill narkasur on this day .according to another mythology it is believed that lord rama came from exile after 14 years and the people of the kingdom light lampshades to welcome then. It is said that lights are lightened to burn the bad days.
we celebrate Diwali in amavasya because in the day of amavasya there is no moon and the whole sky is dark so to remove out the darkness candles and lamps are lightened.
