Why we hidden under table while any disaster come

When ever we read about precautions taken during earthquake, most frequently we read to hide under table if we are in classroom, drawing room and so on .The reason for it is that whenever a earthquake comes ,walls are likely to be fallen and if we are hidden under table , we are secured from injury caused by wall if it falls .If a wall falls ,it would fall on table only ,not directly on us .
