We do not multiply 8 when we calculate equivalent mass.
Equivalent mass = Molecular Mass/ n factor.
Here, n factor is varies for acids, salts and bases.
For example:- n factor of h2so4 = 2 i.e. No. of H+ ions that it can donate.
Similarly, n factor of NaCl = 1 i.e. Total positive or total negative charge on the salt ion.
