why we rub lemon on tarnished copper vessels

Copper vessels get tarnished due to copper oxide layer formed on its surface. Copper oxide is basic whereas lemon is acidic in nature. Lemon contains citric acid . So ,  when we rub copper vessel with lemon, the copper salts formed on the surface of vessel (i.e the layer of oxide), sulphides will be removed..
